About Us
One Craftsman. One Workshop. Thousands of Hours.
MNCWOOD is a single-maker workshop in Poland.
Not a factory. Not a team. Not an "artisan collective" that's really just marketing. Every cutting board that leaves our workshop is cut, glued, sanded, and finished by one pair of hands — from the first raw plank to the final coat of oil and beeswax.
Why Just Cutting Boards?
Because doing one thing well is harder than doing many things adequately.
Every hour not spent on cutting boards is an hour not spent getting better at cutting boards. So we don't make furniture, bowls, kitchen utensils, or decorative pieces. Just boards. End-grain, face-grain, butcher blocks, serving boards — different formats for different kitchens, but the discipline is singular.
The result is a level of precision and pattern complexity you can't get from a workshop that makes forty different things. When every board you've ever made has been a cutting board, the thousandth one is very different from the first.
The Process

Every MNCWOOD board follows the same path:
- Wood selection. Only kiln-dried, properly acclimated hardwoods. European ash, oak, maple, beech — plus carefully sourced exotic woods like sapele, purpleheart, sucupira, and thermo-treated pine. No shortcuts on material.
- Cutting & pattern assembly. For end-grain boards, this is where the real work lives. Every block individually cut, planed, and glued at precise angles. Complex patterns (chevron, labyrinth, diamond lattice, zigzag) are built block by block — not veneered, not printed, not stamped.
- Clamping & bonding. Food-safe waterproof glue, clamped under pressure, left to cure properly. No rushing.
- Hand-sanding. Progressive grits from 80 to 220, sometimes beyond. Every board is sanded by hand until the surface feels like glass.
- Oiling & finishing. Multiple hand-applied coats of food-safe mineral oil and beeswax blend. Each coat absorbed, then wiped, then left to cure.

Start to finish, a complex end-grain board can take several days of work. That's not a marketing figure — it's the real reason we can't make fifty boards a week.
Why Poland?
Poland has a deep woodworking tradition, serious access to European hardwoods, and a culture that still respects making things properly with your own two hands. The workshop sits in this tradition — not trying to reinvent it, just trying to execute it at the highest level we can.
The Young Workshop Advantage
MNCWOOD is a relatively young workshop — a few years old, not decades. For some buyers, that raises a question: why not someone with 30 years of experience?
Fair question. Here's the honest answer:
- Total focus on cutting boards. Older workshops often diversified into whatever paid the bills. We started with cutting boards and have never made anything else.
- Obsession with pattern complexity. The labyrinth, diamond lattice, chevron diamond, and scattered chess patterns in our catalogue aren't traditional designs — they're modern geometric work that requires current tools, current techniques, and a willingness to spend weeks figuring out a single new pattern.
- Direct relationship with every customer. Every message goes to the person who made your board. No customer service layer. No "we'll pass it to the workshop." You're talking to the maker.
You're not getting generational tradition. You're getting everything made by the same person who cares about this more than anything else they do. For a kitchen tool you'll use for decades, that matters.

Every Board Is Made to Order
We don't hold warehouse stock. When you place an order, your board is built specifically for you. This means:
- Every order takes 3–6 business days to build before shipping
- Personalised orders take slightly longer (4–6 business days)
- No two boards are ever identical, because no two boards are built at the same time from the same wood
- Custom sizes, custom patterns, and bulk orders for weddings or businesses are always welcome — just send a message
The flip side: when you unwrap your board, it was made for you, by one person, from raw hardwood to finished surface. Not pulled from a shelf. Not assembled by a crew. Not mass-produced. Just made.
What "Built by Hands. Used for Life." Actually Means
Our tagline isn't marketing. It's a specification:
Built by hands — because every cut, every clamp, every grit of sanding, every coat of oil is applied by a person, not a machine. Machines are used for the work they do better than hands (precision cutting, planing). Hands do the rest.
Used for life — because a well-made end-grain board, properly oiled and cared for, genuinely outlasts everything else in a kitchen. The board you buy today can still be in regular use in 2050. That's not hyperbole. That's how hardwood behaves when it's worked correctly.
If you treat your MNCWOOD board well, it will outlast your current kitchen, your next kitchen, and possibly the kitchen after that.
